In three words? Dark. Techie. Energetic.
What is the inspiration of your tracks?
When we make our tracks, we got lot of inspiration from Techno because we build our tracks on groove, rather than just a melody. Lots of Trance tracks these day, they do build their track around melody. We like to build it from the groove. So when we start a track, we always start with the groove first. We got a nice flow going, something like kinda catchy and dark, like rumbling bassline. That’s where it’s all about. When it gets to melodic part, we really like to put lots of emotion and describe what we feel. So it’s kinda flip side from the dark. Kinda take in people in a journey within a track, like going through the dark and light with emotion, and also dark menacing grooves. So yes we got lot of inspiration from Techno genre.
For the people out there who don’t understand, can you tell us how a duo works like Arkham Knights?
For me and Ben (Turner), obviously because we’re brothers. We grow up together. We share the same vision in music, which works really well. Ben is the main producer, I’m the both of us. I’m the DJ because I’m playing the gigs. He’s more studio-based. We’re always works together in a track. I’m always in the studio with him 24/7 when I’m not touring. He brings my ideas to life. Ben is very accomplished producer, he taught himself. We’re working together well because I couldn’t do what he does in studio. My ideas, I couldn’t put it on the paper but he can. We share the same vision, we just connect. That’s how we get our sound. The duo thing for us is totally works. Like I’m touring now, he’s working on our new track that we started wrote together and now he’s putting it all together. Put finishing touches while I’m on airplane. It’s the part of being a duo.
Working with your brother, have you ever huge conflict related to work?
To be honest, never. We’re both an adult. Of course we had disagreement. We basically go with simple rule. If one of us not feeling it (the music), we just leave that and just start something fresh. We grew up with that same vibe, same connection within the track. If both of us didn’t feel that connection, we just don’t go with it. With that in mind, we never had a major clash.
Touring to many parts of the world, what is your craziest gig ever?
Actually, it was smallest gig I’ve played. We were in Prague. The crowd was so amazing. The guys put an Arkham Knights t-shirts. It was amazing, really small and intimate gig. It was really amazing to have connection with the crowd. I drunk with them after a gig. Everybody was dancing all night. I played for 3 hours and they stayed with me the whole journey. It was really crazy.
We hope to see Arkham Knights again in Jakarta. Grab their latest track "Awakening" now!
