May 2018 started off with some bang. SHVR Ground Festival 2018 (SGF18) back with their third edition. This year, SGF18 came back to their first venue at Allianz Ecopark Ancol Jakarta. Unlike the previous two editions, this year SGF18 was held for two days on 4-5 May 2018.
After we saw the rundown that was released prior the event, we decided to mostly stay at Chilling Square Stage. Day 1 mostly was all about Techno and Progressive music, with lineup such as Apsara, Indra7, Bondax, and the most anticipated FKJ. Day 2 was all about Trance, with lineup such as Syndromatic, Karelino Tahmme, LTN, Marquee, Gareth Emery, and Aly & Fila. We wouldn’t miss it in a million years.
On Day 1, we arrived around 7 PM when Tantra on stage. A great set from Tantra that set the mood for entire night. MC Joey also presents cheer up the crowd. Up next was Apsara. We always admire how Apsara can play according to the mood of the crowd. Since it was still early, she played not too dark like her usual signature. We moved to Arctic Diamond where Dimbo played mashup from various hits. We came back again to catch up Indra7 hit the stage.
Around 9 PM after Indra7, the crew prepare the stage for FKJ. Various music instruments were put on stage and after 30 minutes, FKJ finally appeared. The crowd welcome the French artist with enthusiastic cheers. FKJ played live and used all instruments, from keyboard, guitar, bass and saxophone. After FKJ, we headed out again to Arctic Diamond to see Diskopantera.
The Uprising DJ Paranoia Awards 2017 drew attentions from the crowd with his set. For his debut, as usual he prepared tracks from 80s and 90s, both Indonesian and international songs. The crowd sang together and dance with each track he played. Biggest surprise from him when the intro of the famous song from Barakatak came out. One of the hottest Indonesian dance track in 90s called “Maju Maju Maju” made the crowd dance harder.
After Diskopantera, we headed back to Chilling Square Stage and Bondax was playing. The duo really spiced the night with entire set. Zimmer came next. His set was beast. Played some dark track with heavy bass kicks in. Near of his set, Bondax and FKJ joined Zimmer on stage. Even Bondax decided to have quick B2B performance with Zimmer.
Day 1 at Chiiling Square Stage closed with Indra7 and Apsara performance. This duo delivered dark tracks from Techno and Progressive genres. Their performance made everybody couldn’t stop dancing. What a perfect performance to close the night.
On Day 2, we came a bit early around 6 PM. We were headed straight to Chilling Square Stage again where Syndromatic and MC Rongkie warmed up the crowd. Then continue with performance from Karelino Tahmme.
Roni Joni and Attila Syah came up next. They delivered tracks that really set the mood of the crowd to go party hard. LTN and Marquee took over the deck and didn’t hold back. They continued to keep the mood of the crowd in high level.
Khomha perform next and delivered high energy set. Not once he slowed down the tempo. When Gareth Emery came on stage after Khomha, we were impressed his diverse set. Such a surprise he played new remix of “God Is A Girl” from Groove Coverage. Brought some nostalgic feeling.
Will Atkinson and Standerwick first time perform together in Indonesia and we anticipated strong Tech Trance performance. They didn’t disappoint us and delivered high energy track after track. The night closed by Fadi of Aly & Fila.
As usual, Fadi always surprise us with his track choice. He didn’t play any anthem such “Control The Sunlight” or “Other Shore”. Instead, he played mostly ID tracks but everyone loves it. Good move from Fadi that promotes the tracks by teasing us in his performances, including at SGF18. When he finished, the crowd shout for one more time, but the time has come to an end.
HYPE Music Asia and HYPE Festival stepped up their game by making the festival into 2 days and 3 stages. We took a glimpse at other stage. The main stage, Frozen Galaxy, was a huge construction and the DJ booth decorated with astronaut figure. Arctic Diamond stage served as transit stage for crowd walking from Chilling Square to Frozen Galaxy.
While waiting for the performing artists, people can spend their time with various games in numerous booth by sponsors. Crowd also can write down their wish list DJ they want to see next year.
For the venue itself, well our only problem with Allianz Ecopark is the contour of the land. At Arctic Diamond, for example, the contour not smooth and made people hard to dance and jump around, in case they will fall or even injured.
Rita Ora is quite refreshing lineup this year. Regardless of the majority of wish list that asked for another performance from Martin Garrix next year, we do hope organizer can gives us new and diverse artists from any genres.
See you next year at another edition of SHVR Ground Festival!
