The first person we played it to really put their finger on it: ‘CD1, I turn on at work and CD2 I listen to in the car before I go out’ Music to our ears - that was exactly what we were going for! - Bossi
“CD 2 is more upbeat and intense. Basically is like what we do in a long set,” Nic continued. They try to give a chance for the fans who haven’t got a chance to see Cosmic Gate in festivals or club events to experience Cosmic Gate set.
“We want them to close their eyes and listen to the CDs and imagine how we play in long set,” said Bossi. So fans will get the impressions about how Cosmic Gate play in a long set.
They decided to build the album with this kind of journey to show something to the people. “Sometimes people a little bit close minded when it comes to genre,” said Nic. People tends to strictly categorize genre, such as Trance, Progressive, or even House in their own box.
“For us, we want to show what Trance means for us and what it can be if you just open your mind,” said Nic. That’s why this album called “Wake Your Mind”.
Once again, Cosmic Gate released a track with JES called “If Not Now”. JES is one of the frequent collaborator for the duo. We couldn’t help to ask how they keep their chemistry over the years. Nic and Bossi agreed that they really have great connection with JES.
“We did instruments and she wrote the song to it, or she gave us her vocal then we created the song,” said Nic. Sometimes, when they create the instrument, they know instantly that this will be great for JES. Bossi added that there was a time they work with people and years later they go to separate direction.
“With JES, it’s always feel like we always together and there’s kind of magic when we work,” said Bossi. For Cosmic Gate, JES has beautiful voice and the way she use it is so moving.
“It’s all about feeling. If we don’t feel it, we’re not going to do it,” said Bossi.
When they announced the track list of the album, it consists of new names we heard for the first time. The criteria their looking for were very close to their heart. “They have to wake something in ourselves. It’s got to do something with our hearts and our minds. It has to work on the dance floor. That’s what we’re searching for,” said Bossi.
Unique always help them to narrow the list. “Honestly, 95% of the promos and records we received, they all sound the same. It’s like everyone copying each other!” said Nic.
For them as producer, if you can’t make something stand out, do something that incredibly touching. “Stand out is better,” said Nic.
The first time they came to Colosseum Club was back in 2015. “The whole club looked incredible from DJ booth! Everything in white. It was gorgeous,” said Bossi. For them, Colosseum Club is a unique club and all area inside the club is very special.
“For the past 10 years, we came back to Jakarta again. It means something. It’s a great connection for us and always fun to play here,” said Nic.
