GATO LATEX, An Introduction

We heard about GATO LATEX, a Yogyakarta native DJ, back in June 2017 and unfortunately we missed his show at Enter The Void (ETV) on July 2017. We finally watched his performance during the latest edition of Tech On Sunday on 7 October 2017.

​All we can say is LATEX is a unique performer. His music can be categorized as Berlin Techno, using analog equipment, and play Live Set each time he performs. His style is simple, just like any Yogyakarta people you see every day. However, his performance is not as simple as he looks.
 
He explores his equipment, such as KORG Electribe and Roland MC 505, combine with sampler and analog effect rack. The result is a Berlin Techno signature sounds, with a touch of melodic sound and pumping bass line harmonize with synth effects. We are in awe listened to his first track that night, something we never heard before. “My music is about exploration of analog 90s synth, Groovebox RAW sound, heavy bass, repetitive rhythm and eclectic structure,” that’s how LATEX explained to us.
 
In 2007, he moved to Jakarta and started his second home studio called IMOGEN and run a record label with the same name. LATEX run the label with Joemilion, DENA, Equal, NoFOOTURE, and Mono.log. LATEX starts to produce music with Maiky Mono.log, and Theoo Radenata. LATEX also run a radio stream called Tranquilo. "Next, I'm starting my project called LATEX Synth. It's software to create music and I will distribute it as a freeware," said LATEX.
 
Now LATEX focusing more on live analog set each time he perform. He already performed at KOH-Bali, The SAFEhouse-Jakarta, Embassy-Yogyakarta, Hide & Seek-Jakarta, and Enter The Void-Jakarta. Not only clubs, LATEX also perform at festivals, rave, block party, and art events. The latest one, by the end of October 2017, LATEX will perform at MOKSH Feast alongside Tantra, Claudia Jaramillo, and other Indonesian talents at first beach rave party in Malang.
