For the second time, Semarang was the host for international music event. Semarang Ska Foundation presented Semarang Ska Festival 2015 (SSF 2015). Back in 2012, the first edition of Semarang Ska Festival brought international artists, such as Mr. T-Bone (Italy) and Chris Murray (USA). For this year, the line-up were bigger than the first edition. Semarang Ska Foundation was hold on 17 October 2015 at GOR Tri Lomba Juang Semarang. Before the actual festival begins, there were Meet & Greet with the guest stars and welcome party on 16 October 2015 at Entertainment Plaza Semarang. Continue with city tour around Semarang on 18 October 2015 after the festival end. Chairman of Semarang Ska Foundation, Bayu Nugraha, stated that Semarang SSF 2015 tries to presents a best event for music lovers in Semarang. “We aim to introduce ska music genre to the public. Also this is an international event, we hope to contribute for Semarang’s tourism development,” said Bayu. The line-up for SSF 2015 so massive. On 16 October 2016, the organizer hold a press conference for media on the afternoon at Entertainment Plaza. Representatives from SSF 2015, Entertainment Plaza, Gerhana Ska Cinta and Roy Ellis himself present for the press conference. They talked about the event and the preparation they made. After press conference, Mayor of Semarang, Hendrar Prihadi, stop over to Entertainment Plaza and had an informal conversation with Roy Ellis. Continued with the party that started on 9 PM. More than 200 Mods and Skinheads arrived. Together they danced all night with ska and reggae tracks. It was truly a pre-party because not once the crowd stopped dancing. They sang every song that played by DJ, even danced on stage. The day of festival finally arrived. The gate was opened around 2 PM. Although Semarang that day was scorching heat (the temperature was 34 degrees Celsius!), didn’t stop Mods and Skinheads to come to the venue. The festival started with the performances from local ska community bands. Their performances received appreciations from the crowd.
The crowd getting more hype with the performances from Aimee, Gerhana Ska Cinta (Malaysia), and The Red Stripes (Hong Kong). Around 9 PM, Shaggydog performed on stage and asked the crowd to sing and danced together. The final performance, Roy Ellis a.k.a. Mr. Symarip, came up on stage. He greeted Semarang and received warm welcome from the crowd. At the end of his performance, Mr. Symarip asked some of the audiences to come on stage. It is a signature from Mr. Symarip who always want to share the joy of his music to his fans. At the end of his performance, Mr. Symarip said his gratitude to the audience for the love he received that night. Music knows no boundaries.
