After months of planning, finally Sensation Jakarta debuted their first ever show in Indonesia. On 10 February 2018 at ICE BSD, ravers came in white to enjoy the performance.
The gate was open at 6 AM. Not many ravers came yet. When we entered the gate from Hall 10, we were welcomed with cool breeze air. There were also activation booths from sponsors and F&B booths for ravers. We entered the main area and welcomed with long stage, jellyfish lightings, and square DJ booth as the center of the stage. The stage itself, took 3 halls because it’s very long. Each side of the hall, the organizer builds decks for VIP and VVIP guests.
Around 9 PM, Sensation officially started with its resident, Mr. White, behind the deck. The DJ booth itself can rotate 360 degrees so every side could see the DJ who play. Few times Mr. White waved to the crowd. MC GEE also appeared and greet the crowd.
After Mr. White, Lucas & Steve came next. This Netherland duo kept the tempo up by playing their hits. After Lucas & Steve, Ummet Ozcan continued to entertain the crowd. He played various remixes and mashups alongside his tracks.
The crowd still in great spirit when Quintino took over. Each track he played was welcome with loud cheers. The crowd geared up for the closing act, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike (DVLM). Finally, this year we could see the Belgium duo in complete formation.
DVLM really knew how to throw a party. Dimitri Vegas repeatedly stood on DJ booth and asked the crowd to clap their hand. Like Mike also talked to the crowd and asked them to scream. Everybody stayed until the end of the show.
Overall, the production scale was good. The performers also gave their best to entertain the crowd. However, we heard “Something Just Like This” from The Chainsmokers and Coldplay about 3 times, played by different DJ with different remix. That’s the note from us in terms of performers.
For the first edition, Sensation Jakarta stayed true to their identity. All white dress rule was imposed to all people. Not only ravers, but Sensation crew as well. The rule, however, may not familiar with Indonesian crowd who were used to wear anything they want to a festival. Maybe the dress code rule made some people hesitate to come to Sensation. We’re sure that if Sensation consistent with promote the concept to Indonesian crowd, next edition there will be more people to come and dress in white.
We hope to see another Sensation edition in the future.
